A small group of friends joined me in celebrating my birthday with a fabulous dinner at Lula Cafe. I love Lula for it's neighborhood/cozy feel and "foodie" menu.
I kicked off dinner with a rhubarb white sangria cocktail. We then enjoyed an amuse-bouche of an olive/vegetable tapanade with our glasses of sauvingon blanc. Next was a cup of spring onion soup which was absolutely wonderful. My main course was a dish of hominy stuffed squash blossoms with english peas, pistachio, ‘cassees’ olives, and summer squash-morel escabeche - it was fabulous! Since I'm not a huge dessert person, we all decided to share three different desserts - and they were actually all wonderful - a chocolate tart w/ raspberries and mint ice cream, a trio of ice cream (vanilla, strawberry & lavender) with a shortcake, and a slice of carrot cake.
We finished off the night by heading over to Small Bar (known for their extensive beer menu). All in all - it was a pretty fabulous birthday --- totally not the equivalent of sky-diving, but pretty special nonetheless. :)
